The University of Iowa continues to attract high-achieving students. This fall's incoming first-year class has topped previous records with an average high school grade-point average (GPA) of 3.82. The average high school GPA for the classes of 2025 and 2024 were 3.81 and 3.78, respectively.

Millikin Women's Volleyball named to USMC-AVCA Team Academic Honors, includes Lauren Brummel ('18)

The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced today that more than 1,200 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. The Big Blue volleyball team was named one of the 1,200 squads that earned the academic honors for the 2021-22 academic year. The Millikin women's volleyball team has been honored with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for four years in a row. "Academic achievement doesn't happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority." The AVCA, an educationally based nonprofit headquartered in Lexington, KY, is the largest and most diverse volleyball coaches' association in the world. With a broad mandate to develop the sport, the AVCA provides leadership, recognition, advocacy, and professional development opportunities to over 8,000 volleyball coaches. Members include college, high school, club, and youth coaches, and well as a wide variety of product and service providers. Further information is available at www.avca.org.

Project-based experiential learning is at the heart of the CREATE Institute at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), and how students will develop the skillset and mindset they need to solve the complex challenges of today and tomorrow. It is a resource for industry engagement and academic excellence. The institute is focused on developing high-impact educational experiences for MSOE students and faculty that have a community impact. CREATE Student Fellows are key to these efforts. MSOE is proud to announce the newest cohort of 10 Student Fellows. They represent multiple different majors, each bringing a unique perspective and new ideas. For 2021-22 the Student Fellows are jumpstarting two projects that will make an impact on the MSOE community as well as the greater Milwaukee community.

This fall, the University of Iowa welcomed the most academically accomplished class in its history for the fifth year in a row. The incoming undergraduate class again topped previous records in achievement with a higher average high school grade-point average (GPA), at 3.81, than any previous class.
